Un delicatissimo spaccato di realtà visto attraverso gli occhi di una gatta.
E’ la gatta Jamyla (“bella”) che ci racconta la fuga di una famiglia che da Damasco intraprende un lungo viaggio verso l’Europa, verso un paese senza guerra.
Jamila descrive il viaggio e la sua amicizia con la piccola Alya che la nasconde nello zainetto per portarla con sé: lo smistamento al campo profughi, il viaggio verso l’Egitto, sotto il Canale di Suez e poi su una nave fatiscente verso l’Italia.
Durante l’ultimo viaggio Jamyla e Alya vengono separate e Jamyla si ritrova in quarantena come tutti gli animali che entrano in un nuovo paese.
La speranza di rivedere la sua compagna di viaggio si assottiglia di giorno in giorno, ma grazie ad un fortunato susseguirsi di eventi riusciranno a ritrovarsi e ad andare in Francia.
Un delizioso libro per il primo ciclo delle elementari che fa riflettere sulle difficoltà che deve affrontare chi fugge da un paese in guerra.
