“Miao a tutti, il mio nome è Cicerone
e sono un gatto del Parione…”.
Cicerone è un gatto tutto nero che vive con Tina.
Tina è figlia di un veterinario, adora i gatti e dà lezioni private di latino.
A Cicerone piace la sua vita, una vita semplice scandita sempre dagli stessi riti, fra i quali appisolarsi su un tavolo coperto da un mosaico felino che mostra ventiquattro gatti neri ritratti con i monumenti della capitale, un reperto dove Cicerone può lasciarsi trasportare dai gesti di quei gatti antichi.
Un mosaico a cui manca una sola tessera…
Quindi Cicerone ci racconta una leggenda (così come gli è stata narrata) di una gatta ignorata dalla storia di Roma: da qualche parte c’è una statua che testimonia la sua esistenza, si tratta della Gatta Capitolina. I gatti da secoli raccontano che è stata una gatta ad allattare i gemelli Romolo e Remo e, grazie al gatto nero, scopriamo che esiste una “mitologia felina” che la storia ha abilmente cancellato.
Cicerone vuole indagare, lui sa che nelle leggende c’è sempre un fondo di verità, così quando un’archeologa tedesca arriva a Roma prendono il via una serie di coincidenze: Tina trova una statuetta al mercato (un gatto che le ricorda una sfinge) e, dentro la statuetta, scopre un taccuino scritto in lingua felina che l’archeologa è in grado di tradurre.
Ovviamente la lingua dei gatti è il latino!
Il taccuino racconta la storia del popolo dei Felini Romani, ma in realtà è una guida che accompagna Cicerone e la sua Tina alla scoperta della storia sulle vere origini di Roma.
Così fra un motto latino e tanta apologia felina (tutto rigorosamente in rima) il gatto nero ci insegna come la storia a volte può essere molto diversa da come ci è stata raccontata, perché i gatti sono animali liberi, senza padrone, sanno comunicare con chi li sa ascoltare e hanno molte storie da raccontare…
Un albo in rima dal formato quadrato tutto bianco e nero (nero come la pelliccia di Cicerone), un mistero antico che si scivola come un gatto fra codici, vicoli e monumenti romani per finire in un nascondiglio sorvegliato dalla dea Minerva!
Dopo questo libro imparerete a guardare la storia attraverso gli occhi di un gatto, e ricordatevi sempre che “Rerum veritas in felium ore invenis” cioè “La verità dei fatti la trovi in bocca ai gatti” (secondo motto felino).
Una curiosità: l’autore (neanche a dirlo) ha due gatti.
